Taste of Prague Czech Podcast, Ep 42 - o cestování s dětmi (Copy)

[Note to all English readers: This podcast and its description are both in Czech. Please look for English episodes of the podcast. Thank you!]

Taste of Prague Czech Podcast, Ep 41 - Dominika a Hanka z Café Jen

Taste of Prague Czech Podcast, Ep 41 - Dominika a Hanka z Café Jen

[Note to all English readers: This podcast and its description are both in Czech. Please look for English episodes of the podcast. Thank you!]

No to si tenhle díl se skvělou Dominikou a Hankou budete muset pustit!

Taste of Prague Podcast, Ep 15 - Steffi and David of Gastro Journey, representing Mallorca

Taste of Prague Podcast, Ep 15 - Steffi and David of Gastro Journey, representing Mallorca

If you’ve been following us online, you know we have just returned from Mallorca, and we loved it. So we wanted to have a chat with the couple that was partly responsible for the great time we had on the island, Steffi and David, aka Gastro Journey, who gave us multiple tips for food and things to do around the island. And we wanted to share that knowledge with you, in case you’re planning to go.

This episode is basically designed for anyone who wants to visit Mallorca. Steffi and David are well-travelled foodies and have some great tips. The things we discuss in this podcast:

  • Current situation in Mallorca, Covid-wise

  • The biggest mistakes tourist make in Mallorca

  • The best time to visit Mallorca

  • The must-tries in Mallorca when it comes to dishes, produce, wine, alcohol, basically what to try and where to try it

  • Mallorca and tourism - the types of tourism Mallorcans love and hate

  • Steffi’s and David’s top three casual and fine dining restaurants, and their top three coffee/breakfast spots

  • Their favorite hidden place to eat, and their favorite beaches on the island

  • What do they actually do for a living, and can they separate their personal affairs from their work affairs?

  • And their guilty pleasures, of course.

Now, we have written a blog post about our trip to Mallorca, so some of the tips given by Steffi and David are already in our tips, and we will add their top threes to the map we have in our blog post.

So sit back and enjoy, and then run book your flights to Mallorca! You’ll love it.

Our trip to Mallorca

Our trip to Mallorca

The TL;DR version: We went to Mallorca. You should go, too. Soon.

It seems that 2021 is the year Covid has forced us to discover places that were under our radar previously. We went to Dubai in February, reluctantly, and we really liked it. Now we’ve been to Mallorca, and we loved it too. We’ll have to confess: if you said „Mallorca“ to us, we’d think beaches, resorts, German retirees, maybe Rafael Nadal? We didn’t know much about the island, and did not expect much. But it was a direct flight, Mallorca’s covid numbers were low, and the testing requirements were not that harsh, so the decision was easy. We went for 10 days.

And boy oh boy, we may have left our heart in Mallorca. We honestly loved our stay. Here’s our small report and some thoughts.

Taste of Prague Czech Podcast, Ep 40 - Karolína a Teo z In August Company

Taste of Prague Czech Podcast, Ep 40 - Karolína a Teo z In August Company

[Note to all English readers: This podcast and its description are both in Czech. Please look for English episodes of the podcast. Thank you!]

Dnešním hostem našeho podcastu jsou Karolína a Teo z In August Company.

Taste of Prague Czech Podcast, Ep 39 - Vlad Bogdanov z La forme

Taste of Prague Czech Podcast, Ep 39 - Vlad Bogdanov z La forme

[Note to all English readers: This podcast and its description are both in Czech. Please look for English episodes of the podcast. Thank you!]

Natural Wine Sellers That Deliver

Natural Wine Sellers That Deliver

Given the interrupted wine-making tradition and a fairly young audience with affluence and a knack for all things cool and new, Prague has always been a haven for natural wines - if there is one area where Prague has lead rather than followed the world, it must be natural wines.

But the coronavirus pandemic means that most of the drinking has been happening at home over the last year or so, and since the pandemic has been long, and our April of 2021 incredibly cold and unwelcoming, we thought we should have a proper look at natural wine distributors that actually make deliveries to your home.

We mean, we can’t wait for the wine bars to reopen just like the other guys, but we also can’t wait empty-handed, can we? Let’s get right to it.

Taste of Prague Podcast, Ep 14 - Global Covid Update

Taste of Prague Podcast, Ep 14 - Global Covid Update

This podcast episode will be a bit different. First, it’s in English. (We know, long overdue!) And second, we’re not interviewing one or two people who work together. Oh no, today we’re interviewing several people who represent several cities.

The idea behind this podcast episode is simple: call some of our favorite people in our favorite destinations and ask them about their current situation - how is the city coping with the pandemic, how has the food and hospitality industries been affected, what’s the general feeling in the society, how is the vaccination effort going, and what is the outlook for the future near and far. You see, what you hear through the media is one thing, but we wanted to hear about the real experience of people who live in some of our favorite destinations. We can’t wait to travel, and this is a little trip down memory lane for us.

So what cities are we covering and with whom? We’re talking Paris, Berlin, Copenhagen, London, New York City, and Melbourne.

Young Czech Chefs to Look Forward To

Young Czech Chefs to Look Forward To

So here we are, past Easter, at what seems to be the tail end of yet another wave of Covid, but things strangely look a bit more optimistic this time around (perhaps because it can’t be that bad anymore, can it?). The Czech Republic has been either shut or locked down since October 2020 (with the exception of two weeks in early December), and the state of emergency is set to end in less than a week, and some restrictions will be lifted, with hopefully more to follow.

So it’s time to look into the future, and write about things to look forward to. And one of the things we look forward to is to see young Czech chefs, often with extensive and high-profile experience from abroad, coming back to the Czech Republic and using that experience to feed us. And after a year of closed restaurants, boy do we need feeding!

So this is just a small overview of some of the young chefs we look forward to get fed by. It is by no means exhaustive, and the definition of „young“ is a bit wobbly and based on our personal assumptions, but you get the drift, right?

Follow these chefs to know what’s up. That’s what we’re trying to say here.

Eating Alone Together XIX - the Last Supper with Alcron hotel's La Rotonde

Eating Alone Together XIX - the Last Supper with Alcron hotel's La Rotonde

Our Eating Alone Together series of dinners have come to an end. It was good while it lasted, but it’s time to move on to other projects. [Sob. We’ll keep you posted.]

We want to thank everyone who’s ever bought a ticket and joined us in supporting local restaurants we love: we had loads of great food from independent chefs and kitchens, and loads of fun chatting online after the dinners. In total, this is the 19th dinner - and the last - dinner we are serving. We’ve served well over 500 dinners and brought in about CZK 500 thousand in revenue to Prague’s restaurants we love and care about. Thank you.

But the question is: who will serve our last supper? We wanted to leave on top.
